As an Assistant Accountant, you will play a vital role in the day-to-day financial operations, gaining valuable experience and working on a diverse and challenging portfolio of projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow forecasts.
  • Manage and reconcile accounts payable and receivable, ensuring accurate and timely processing of invoices and payments.
  • Support the preparation of financial statements in compliance with relevant accounting standards.
  • Collaborate with project managers and senior accountants to ensure financial controls and reporting are aligned with business objectives.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis, helping to drive informed decision-making within the company.
  • Maintain accurate records of financial transactions, ensuring compliance with internal and external audit requirements.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights into project costings, performance, and profitability.
  • Support with the preparation of VAT returns, tax filings, and other statutory financial obligations.
  • Actively participate in month-end and year-end closing processes, contributing to the smooth and efficient operation of the finance department.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Experience in an accounting or finance role, ideally within a large-scale or engineering-focused environment.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and budget preparation.
  • Proficient in the use of accounting software and Microsoft Excel, with the ability to produce detailed financial reports.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Proactive and motivated, with a genuine interest in developing a long-term career in accounting.
  • A relevant degree or qualification (e.g., AAT, ACCA, CIMA) is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience in the engineering or construction sectors would be an advantage, but not a requirement.
