Assistant Buyer - Indirect

Job Title: Assistant Buyer (In-Direct Buying – Manufacturing)
Location: Lanarkshire
Salary: Up to £35k + Benefits

We're looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Buyer to join our fast-paced procurement team. In this role, you'll work with a leading manufacturing firm known for its cutting-edge production and high-quality products. As an Assistant Buyer, you’ll be responsible for managing supplier relationships, negotiating deals, and ensuring the timely delivery of raw materials and components. Your role will be integral to the business's success, and you'll have a direct impact on the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of our manufacturing operations.

Are you who we’re looking for?

  • Strong experience in purchasing or procurement, preferably within a manufacturing environment
  • Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to build long-lasting supplier relationships
  • Experience with direct buying, especially raw materials or components
  • Proficient in ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and MS Office
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders
  • A proactive and problem-solving attitude

What does the day-to-day look like?

  • Managing the procurement of direct materials, ensuring cost-effective and timely delivery
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and negotiating contracts
  • Monitoring inventory levels and working closely with the production team to forecast demand
  • Identifying cost-saving opportunities and contributing to the company’s bottom line
  • Collaborating with the logistics team to resolve any supply chain issues
  • Ensuring compliance with all procurement policies and procedures
  • Gaining exposure to supplier audits, contract management, and tender processes
  • Opportunities for career growth, including the potential to move into senior buying or category management roles
