Associate – Dispute Resolution (Construction) – Band 1 Firm – Prestigious, Strong Team & Structure – 3+ Years PQE


HRC Recruitment is excited to be working with a prestigious Band 1 law firm to recruit an experienced Associate in Construction Dispute Resolution in Glasgow or Edinburgh. This is a fantastic opportunity for a driven and ambitious lawyer with 3+ years PQE to join a market-leading team known for its expertise in handling complex and high-value construction disputes.

As an Associate in this highly regarded team, you will gain exposure to a diverse and challenging caseload, working with clients across a wide range of sectors including commercial, residential, and infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a broad range of contentious construction matters, including project disputes, contractual disagreements, delay claims, and adjudication processes.
  • Advise clients on complex issues such as construction defects, professional negligence claims, and disputes involving construction contracts and subcontracts.
  • Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, and other forms of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) to achieve successful and cost-effective outcomes.
  • Provide strategic advice on risk management and dispute avoidance during all stages of construction projects.
  • Work closely with senior fee earners, assisting on large-scale construction disputes and high-profile cases.
  • Draft and prepare legal documents including pleadings, settlement agreements, and court submissions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring the delivery of high-quality legal advice and exceptional service.
  • Stay abreast of developments in construction law and dispute resolution, providing clients with up-to-date and practical legal guidance.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • 3+ years PQE in construction dispute resolution, with experience handling a variety of contentious construction matters.
  • Proven ability to manage complex construction disputes from inception to resolution, including issues such as breach of contract, delays, and construction defects.
  • Experience in adjudication and other forms of alternative dispute resolution, with strong negotiation skills.
  • Excellent drafting and legal research skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise, and persuasive legal documents.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to present complex legal arguments in a straightforward manner.
  • A client-focused approach with the ability to build and maintain lasting client relationships.
  • An understanding of the construction industry, including standard forms of construction contracts such as JCT, NEC, and FIDIC, would be advantageous.
  • A proactive and organised approach to managing caseloads and meeting deadlines.
  • A strong academic background and a genuine passion for construction law.
