Environmental & Sustainability Advisor
Location: South Lanarkshire

Are you passionate about driving environmental and sustainability improvements? We’re looking for an Environmental & Sustainability Advisor to help implement our environmental policies, ensuring compliance and driving best practices across our operations for our busy railway consultancy business.

You’ll play a key role in maintaining standards, conducting audits, and supporting project teams to ensure sustainability is at the heart of everything we do.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Develop and maintain environmental and sustainability procedures, identifying areas for improvement
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, industry standards, and Network Rail requirements
  • Maintain and improve our Environmental Management System and associated procedures
  • Ensure our Integrated Management System meets ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 44001, and ISO 50001 standards
  • Maintain SSIP accreditation and manage environmental data for supplier portals (RISQS, UVDB, CHAS, etc.)
  • Support the environmental aspects of the Principal Contractors Licence (PCL) and On-track Plant Operators Scheme (POS) for Network Rail, including social value initiatives
  • Conduct waste management audits and inspections, implementing waste management plans
  • Monitor non-conformances, ensuring corrective actions are taken
  • Review environmental documentation, prepare reports, and liaise with external stakeholders
  • Perform environmental audits and inspections on both railway and non-railway operations
  • Identify and respond to new environmental legislation and requirements
  • Conduct energy assessments, analyse savings opportunities, and drive energy management projects
  • Attend environment, safety, and quality meetings with internal teams and clients
  • Promote positive environmental behaviours across the business

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree in Environmental Science (or related field)
  • IEMA membership at Practitioner level
  • Personal Track Safety (PTS) certification
  • ISO 14001 Internal Auditor qualification
  • Environmental Management Systems experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Health & Safety qualification and IOSH membership (desirable)
